Everything you want to know about connectivity and the internet of everything

Hot topics overview

The advance of the Internet of Things is picking up speed. By 2020, according to Intel, there will be around 200 billion smart devices connected to the internet. Some will be in our pockets, some in our homes but far the biggest number will be at work – in offices, factories, warehouses, vehicles, offices, car parks, shops and hospitals. Many of them will be mobile. All of them will be connected, to the internet or other network, collecting, processing and distributing data.

The digital economy requires a more flexible connectivity, mixing and matching communications technologies and suppliers. It’s going to get complicated. Technology is running ahead of the legislative framework. There are serious questions about the applicable regulatory framework and big issues over security, liabilities and accountabilities.

In legal terms, it’s an emerging and sophisticated practice area and we’re proud that our team is in the vanguard of developing regulatory strategies and commercial terms for this new era of connectivity. Because we understand the communications market and its challenges from three perspectives: the end user, the vendor and the regulator, we can often uncover new ways of doing things. We’ll help you to minimise the risks and maximise the benefits of IoT innovation with a sound commercial arrangement that works for your business.
